At the center of the Jabalpur city, Rani Durgavati Museum was established in year 1976. It is just opposite to Hotel Krishna. Museum is one of the important place to visit during Jabalpur city tour. Rani Durgavati Museum houses some best collection of prehistoric relics, inscriptions and sculptures. Museum remains open for general public from Tuesday to Sunday in every week. It remains closed on every Monday and on government holidays. Museum is spread on on a double-storied building with large open area surrounding the main building

As we enter the ground floor we can find some rare historic statues of Hindu & Jain gods. Every statue has been showcased with all necessary information about them. Showcased Statues are from 3rd century to 18th century and are gathered from near by areas. Most of the statues are of time when Jabalpur was ruled by Gond and Kalchuri rulers. As we proceed further, we can find rare coins of 2nd BC to 1600 BC placed in showcase. All coins are original and provides some vital information of that era. If we proceed to first floor we can find some rare hand written letters of our Father of Nation “Mohandas Karanchand Gandhi”. In addition to it, original pictures of our freedom fighters like Pd. Jawaharlal Nehru, M. K. Gandhi, Sarojini Naidu, Subhash Chand Bose etc. At the end we can get the real picture of tribal culture of Madhya Pradesh. Here we can find the original dress-up of tribes of Madhya Pradesh, India. We can also get the glimpse of their house, equipments used by them, their physical characteristics, culture etc. As Madhya Pradesh has highest percentage of tribal population in comparison to any other state of India. During visit do not touch any article as it will be considered as offence. Every activity of visitors are monitored through close circuit cameras.

On outside the building of Rani Durgawati museum, large number of statues are kept in open with related information. They are good for photography as they are rare and also a great peace of stone carving art of India. There is a nice statue of wild boar just in front of entrance gate of building, which was best of photography as it was so finely carved and made that every passing by visitor stops here to praise to beauty of artist and art.
